Rumors of Redskin training facility in our area
City Stadium, the Sports Backers complex, Virginia Union University, and University of Richmond are fairly logical choices to locate the Redskin training facility but I was a little surprised to see a spot in H&H make the list of possible spots. I’m not giving this rumor very much credence due to how much it would cost to convert the area but I’ve been wrong before. From a CBS6...

Richmond.com review of Dixie Chicken
On Twitter and Facebook I’ve been pretty clear on where I stand with Dixie Chicken. My review would consist of love it, go eat it now. Fortunately there are professionals out there that can do a much better job of food review than myself. From Richmond.com; White or dark meat chicken can be chosen for the fried chicken combo—both offer impossibly moist and abundant meat, especially for...

Mayor is asked to pressure the School Board to...
Ownership and the ability to secure a loan has been a stumbling block in Patrick Henry’s effort to renovate the rest of the school building on Semmes. According to Richmond Magazine.com members of city council have sent a letter to the mayor requesting that the School Board transfer ownership of the property to the school. “Thing at Patrick Henry, they can fund the rest of the...

Springhill Residents concerned about proposed...
The name of the 50 unit proposed apartment building is Richmond Overlook designed by the firm of Winks and Snowa. The apartment would be located on Cowardin between Stonewall and Springhill. The design of the apartment isn’t of  concern, it’s the developers track record. The developer is Bridgeland Devleopers. If you take a look at past projects by Bridgeland you’ll find that...

Architecture Richmond visits Forest Hill Park
A brief history of the park on Architecture Richmond. I always have to highlight my favorite part, roller coasters. In 1889, the land was sold to Southside Land and Improvement Co., who used the land as an end stop for the Forest Hill trolley route. During this time the additions to the Rhodes House included a carousel, roller coaster, golf course, swimming area and other amusement park...

Ask a Hills & Heighter
Tenth entry in my simple mission to find out more about my neighbors and neighborhood. I plan to ask the same questions to artists, craftspeople, musicians and local business owners. This week we delve into the mind of Karri Peifer a land of snarky Tweets, rootballs, harassing of weathermen, Flag Day advocate, and more than a little bit of wine. I sent Karri the standard 5 questions and below...

Lee Shewmake answers some questions from Oregon...
On the post about David Gammino pulling out of the race for the 5th District Council seat Scott Burger, Oregon Hill activist and editor of Oregon Hill asked some questions of the remaining challenger Lee Shewmake in the comments. Lee had a lengthy response and I feel the dialogue is worth sharing on the main section of the site. The only editing on my part is some formating  issues. Scott Burger...

This tall stalk is what everyone’s whispering about at the market…’ooo, look at that’, ‘which vendor has THAT?!’, ‘what on earth do you do with it?’. It’s Elephant Garlic and can be found at Pleitez Produce. It is actually part of the leek family but resembles garlic in looks and somewhat in flavor. It has a beautiful bloom that is not edible...
