Teen shot on Drumheller

From NBC12

A Richmond teen was shot multiple times at his apartment Thursday night.

He’s in critical but stable condition at Chippenham Hospital. Police say a van pulled up Thursday night, and a 15-year-old stumbled out, with blood everywhere.

They say his family drove him there, because they live two miles up the Chippenham Parkway.

The shooting happened on Drumheller Drive, close to where Forest Hill Avenue meets the Chippenham Parkway. Police were on the scene around 9 p.m., and they say there are no suspects and no motive ready to be released.

Police want to hear from you if you know anything about how this teen was shot. You can call crime stoppers anonymously at (804) 780-1000.

A primer on rezoning and school closing

The School Board of Richmond Public Schools will consider closing three schools. Why would they want to, why it’s controversial, and what happens next. Head to RVA News to read this excellent summary by John Murden. Focus is on Clark Springs but worth a read.

Folks on Boscobel Ave. want a speed hump

Currently a request on SeeClickFix, the city website for calling attention to issues/problems. The description states, “Dorchester Rd. and Boscobel Ave. are constantly use as a cut off to avoid the light at Forest Hill and Jahnke. People drive very fast through this area and there are my small children in the neighborhood.” Despite the grammatical issues (which I’m no position to ever judge) the are two comments that support the change. I’ve had success using SeeClickFix on potholes  it will interesting to see if this request makes headway.

Tennis courts finished with younger set in mind

Soon I will be renaming this Bryce Lyle’s Hills and Heights because he keeps cluing me into what’s going on. The latest from Bryce is news that the old tennis courts behind Walgreens and the dialysis center have been refinished and are ready for your volleys.

What’s exciting about these courts is that they include the first set of permanent courts designed for children 10 and under. These courts are smaller as you can see above and feature shorter nets. There are a total of 4 mini-courts and so you adult lobbers don’t feel left out there are 3 full sized courts.

The Richmond Tennis Association is excited to see state-of-the-art tennis courts return to Westover Hills and expects to host kids’ tournaments at the new facility this summer. Joe Grover, president of the RTA (Richmond Tennis Association), says “many people remember Westover Hills hosting tournaments when their kids were young and they are eager to see tennis come back to this area.” -Thanks to Bryce for the above information and pictures.
